"Sometimes you feel like a nut. Sometimes you don't. Peter Paul Almond Joy's got nuts. Mounds don't."

Each Almond Joy bar gets two layers of chocolate to protect the almond from the coconut so it doesn’t get soggy. The bar receives one coat, the almonds are added and then the entire bar is covered in chocolate.

Both Almond Joy and Mounds Bar were rated the #1 and #2 candy for many years by Candy Industry magazine.

History

The Almond Joy candy bar was introduced by the Peter Paul Candy Manufacturing Company in New Haven, Connecticut in 1946 as a replacement for the Dream Bar which was introduced in 1936. The Dream Bar was made of milk chocolate, coconut and diced almonds.

Until 2007, both Mounds and Almond Joy were made exclusively at the plant in Naugatuck, Connecticut which was built in 1922. Operations were moved to a Hershey plant in Virginia.

The famous advertising jingle, "Sometimes you feel like a nut. Sometimes you don't. Peter Paul Almond Joy's got nuts. Mounds don't,” was introduced in the 1970s.
